So I'm bartering with a friend: one Viking tunic in exchange for some chainmail bracelets.
Tunics from this time period are fairly simple- every piece starts as a rectangle. I tapered the shape from the shoulder to knee for a better fit in the torso, and from the shoulder to wrist for a better fit in the arm. Four gores, cut from two triangles, go into the sides, and from there it's just decorative bits to taste. I added a keyhole neck, and there will be a three inch border in the orange wool at the hem and wrists. Yellow linen appliques will go on the collar, along with some embroidery.
